Thank you for your recent letter about the UN declaration of Human Rights and the Liberal Democrat position on cannabis use.
At the 1994 Liberal Democrat Party Conference we committed ourselves to call for a Royal Commission to look into how to fight drugs in our society. In my view, this was a wise decision.
I do not believe that the battle against drugs should be treated as a political issue, a Royal Commission does therefore, seem to be a sensible answer.
